As you will know the implementation of NDIS has really changed the landscape of the disability sector. There are so many more options available to people with disability than ever before which is great for people living with a disability but also with like everything new it takes a while to fully understand the system and how to get the most out of what is available.
It is our job as Support Coordinators to help clients do just that. Essentially our role is to help raise understanding for people with disability or their decisions makers, to be able to manage their NDIA plan themselves. The funding we receive is from the section called Capacity Building and not every client is allocated this in their plan. It normally depends on the complexity of the participants needs. It is our role to build the persons capacity and understanding so that in future years they may not need a Coordinator of Supports and they are able to manage the processes successfully themselves.
We assist the participants to utilise their NDIS plan to the fullest, we help to develop a budget, guide them in ways their plans can be used to achieve their goals and show them options from potential providers that can meet their needs. As a support coordinator although we work for United Disability Care we do not automatically recommend services from our organisation. When helping to coordinate it’s important we remain independent, we suggest and recommend providers that are the most suited to the client’s needs.
One of the key areas that we support is ensuring our clients have the right documentation ready for their NDIS plan reviews. Helping them to understand the requirements and the best way to collate the right information to help identify the correct level and areas of funding for their needs. As the NDIS has rolled out there has been an increasing demand for our roles and people with our knowledge. Our team has grown to make sure we have someone available to support in all our regions.
Everyone within the COS team takes great pride in linking participants with their ideal providers whether they be direct supports, allied health or equipment suppliers. As we know that sometimes the smallest of changes can make the biggest impacts in the quality of our clients’ day to day life.
If you would like any more information about the support we can provide in this area please contact firstname.lastname@example.org or call 1300 454 850 to be put in touch with one of the Support Coordinators in the team.
With each level dependent on the requirement and length of time needed to facilitate you support. This service offers reassurance, guidance and ongoing support whilst navigating the NDIS and building capacity.
Your plan is reviewed annually and your Support Coordinator can work with your plan manager. The review is to ensure the services are meeting your needs and that the allocations for services match your budget. You can request and early plan review if you feel your current plan isn’t meeting your needs.
