In the led up to International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD) we celebrated the independence achieved by people living with disability. On 20th November 2019 United Disability Care sponsored the iFLY experience for those in the Gold Coast community to try something different.
Most of the flyers had never done anything so adventurous before and really enjoyed the experience. Our youngest flyer was under 5, with our eldest being over 75 years old. Indoor skydiving truly is an all inclusive activity, which we look to host again in 2020, so we can provide more people with the simulated indoor experience of skydiving.
United Disability Care sponsored over 45 flyers with disability to experience indoor skydiving. Channel 7 News joined us at iFLY to do a story for the 6 pm news, which featured the same night.
The flyers had an amazing experience, it was a truly heart-warming day seeing the huge smiles. The stories of excitement and achievement from the flights are the reason why we support people living with disability to love their lives and live their dreams.
One of the Dads that came with his two boys said he hadn’t seen his son smile in such a long time that it brought tears to his eyes. The teenage girl that joined us spends most of her time in hospital and said flying was the best thing she had done in her whole life. The feedback from the day was so positive from both the flyers and their families.
“While I consider it a privilege to do what I do, I love that I am in a position that I can take a moment to give back in some way and inspire people to do something that makes them love life” – Sylvia Capps, CEO.
Indoor Skydiving at iFLY is safe, easy to do and accessible for all abilities. The huge vertical wind tunnel simulates the feeling of jumping out of a plane and free-falling for 50 seconds. The iFLY staff supported the flyers to feel safe for their two flights.
